New class

I mentioned in my previous post that I would have to get creative with the space in my 2nd classroom.

For those of you that don't know, this coming year I will be working out of 2 buildings. I will teach (I don't know the grade yet) ELL in my home school and  K and 1st ELL in my second school.

Anyway, I went into my 2nd school yesterday and I got to see my new space. I was expecting a small space. I am used to small spaces. I have learned to adapt and become very creative with small spaces. Although this new space is definitely a new challenge for me. Let me just say it is an odd shape.
This is the view from one of my doors.
Here is the view from my sink.
I get a sink!!!
Here is the view from the cabinets.
Here is the view from the door on the opposite side.
I have 1 of these bulletin boards, and I am working on getting a second.

I am also going to swap out the kidney table for two small rectangular tables. I can get more kids in that way. I teach small groups of children but I still like everyone to have their own space. I will put those tables in an L shape, like my teacher desk and guided reading area in my home school. I think that is my new favorite placement for tables.

I will use the two big closet doors for my word wall. The closet is not storage, it is an electrical closet. :/ I will use the bottom shelves of the the shelving unit for my reading center. The top will be used for teacher storage. I am not sure where I am going to put my whole group teaching area. I will have to spend more time in the room to get a feel for it.

I will post more when I spend more time in the room. I should have an update on Monday or Tuesday.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and comments!

  1. I love new spaces and the fun challenges they give you. I'm sure you will make it adorable:)
Quick question...I just got my 3 ELL student Thursday...but unlike the others she speaks no English. Do you have any quick references/websites for a child from Hungary? I just finished my ELL certification (thank the Lord) but thouht you might have some quick advise:)

  4. How are you able to teach at two schools simultaneously?

  5. Tara, I've never had any students from Hungary, but my number one thing I always tell other teachers is to take pictures of everything and use them daily. Feel free to email me if you have questions.

Kimberly, yes that is a bathtub in the hallway. There are several in the building. I will ask what they use them for when I meet a few more teachers.

Jess, & Just Mu Life, I will spend my morning (8:20-11:00) at one school and the afternoon (11:20-3:40) at my home school.

Jess, email me at msk1ell(at)gmail(dot)com and I will send you instructions for posting a DC button on your blog.

  6. Your school has given you great furniture. I don't see any windows though. I once had to make a bulletin board that looked like a window. You have a great start on your room.

Thanks for the comment. Please come back again.
